How It Happened
The Spartans racked up double-digit (11) shots in the first quarter, but could not get net past Diplomat goalie Teddy Scarborough who ended the opening period with six stops. F&M fed off their defensive strength and turned it into offense as they owned a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. Dillon Mannix did the damage for the Dips as he netted a pair of goals 63 seconds apart.

After a sluggish start to the second quarter by the Spartan offense Nate Schilling finally put the Green and White on the board with 7:23 left. Schilling picked up a loose ball behind the goal, wrapped around the crease and stung a shot past Scarborough for his fifth goal of the young season. F&M went on to win the ensuing faceoff and struck quickly to bump their lead back up to two goals. The Spartans landed a counter blow with under three minutes to play when Corey Bergmann set up Davis Fisher for his fifth goal of the season as York trailed, 3-2, heading into halftime.

York posted consecutive goals a little over a minute apart by Fisher and Gavin Gismondi to take their first lead of the game (4-3) with 9:54 left in the third. After a hot start to the third, the Spartan offense went silent the rest of the way as Scarborough racked up six more saves throughout the period. The Diplomats made the most of their defensive efforts and tacked on two more goals including one on the man-advantage to take a 5-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Spartan defense stood tall to open the fourth quarter as they stopped F&M on five-straight possessions. York built on that momentum when long-stick midfielder Zach Rutledge netted an equalizer in transition with 7:18 left which snapped a near 18-minute scoring drought by the Spartans. A little over two minutes later, the Spartans posed another stop and turned it into a goal on the other end with Schilling scoring for the second time on the day with 5:02 left.

Womack went on to make two more saves in the final five minutes including one with three seconds as he finished with six in the final quarter to seal the victory for York.
