How It Happened
The opening quarter went back-and-forth with the Spartans ultimately prevailing with a 3-2 lead. York took advantage of some early miscues by W&L and scored the first two goals off turnovers. Coleton Mahorney tallied the game's first goal four minutes after the opening faceoff and Dylan McDougall tacked on another less than two minutes later. The Generals got on the board with 6:50 left and played make-it-take-it to tie the game up, 2-2, a little over a minute later.

Gavin Gismondi disrupted a W&L clear attempt which gave the Spartans possession and Mahorney found the back of the net for the second time to put York back on top, 3-2, with 3:13 left in the first quarter. The Generals turned up the pressure as time wound down in the first, but Nash Womack rose to the occasion and made a sprawling save in the final seconds to preserve the Spartan lead. The York netminder was superb in the first quarter as he finished with six saves while facing 14 total shots.

After both teams exchanged possessions to start the second quarter, the Generals turned a defensive stop into a goal less than four minutes in to tie the score, 3-3. York countered and went ahead 5-3 with 7:55 left in the second on tallies by Blake Morton and Sean O'Reily with both goals following Womack saves.

The Generals then turned their own defensive stands into offense as their goalie Nick De Cain denied York twice on consecutive possessions which then turned into a goal for W&L. The Generals then caused a Spartan on the ensuing York possession which resulted in a tying goal with 3:31 left before halftime. The home side looked to tack on more as they racked up five shots in the final three minutes, but Womack racked two more saves during that span and ended the first half with 12 to help keep the game tied heading into the break.

Both teams had their foot on the gas throughout the third quarter as a total of eight goals were scored on a combined total of 23 shots. After the Generals scored three-straight to take a 9-7 lead with just over four minutes to go, Corey Bergmann scored a critical goal with 1:54 left to keep the Generals in check. W&L responded less than a minute later as James Haley scored his second goal of the quarter to put the Generals up 10-8 with just 60 seconds left. W&L took the lead into the fourth quarter thanks in large part to the huge effort by De Cain who made eight saves in the third.

A little over two minutes into the fourth quarter, the game went into a 30-minute delay after York's Morton was hit high by a General defenseman. That caused Morton to remain down on the field and he had to receive extensive medical attention as the game came to a halt.

Once play resumed, the two teams traded goals including one by Davis Fisher on the Spartan man-up unit as York trailed, 11-9, with 10:49 left. The Spartans had several good looks over the next three minutes, but came up empty and the Generals took full advantage as Hillis Burns notched his third goal of the game to give W&L a crucial three-goal lead (12-9) with 6:43 left to play.

The Spartans ended up cutting the W&L lead down to two with 4:48 left, but wound up turning the ball over on their next two possessions and then were denied by De Cain yet again with a minute left which sealed the win for the Generals.
