Dickinson Runs Away From Spartans in Tuesday Women’s Hoops

CARLISLE, Pa. – The York women's basketball team dropped their fourth-straight game, while Dickinson racked up their third consecutive victory as the Red Devils claimed a 74-54 win on their home floor on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
After a close start, Dickinson out-scored York, 15-7, through the final six minutes of the first quarter to take a 22-12 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of play. Both teams shot right around 38% from the field in the first quarter, but the Red Devils owned a big advantage on the boards which led to many second-chance points as they out-rebounded the Spartans, 15-9, including a 9-2 margin on the offensive glass.

Dickinson held York scoreless through the first three minutes of the second quarter as the Red Devils went on a 17-2 run just past the midway point of the period to take a 39-14 lead. Dickinson wound up taking a commanding 44-21 lead into halftime after shooting 50.0% from the floor in the second quarter, while holding York to just 22.2%.

Despite shooting an efficient 54.5% in the third quarter, the Spartans struggled to gain ground as the Red Devils owned a 16-14 advantage in points to go along with a 13-5 advantage in rebounds and took a 60-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Spartans won the fourth quarter, 19-14, with Kaila Fitzpatrick leading the way with all eight of her points which wound up being the team-high for York on the night.

The Spartans return to the court on December 19 to take on Christopher Newport in the opening round of the Nelson Hinson Invitational hosted by CNU.

The Spartans are now 5-4 all-time against Dickinson since the series began in 1987 … York is 0-3 on the road this season, while Dickinson is 2-2 on at home … Dickinson set season-highs for made three-pointers (10) and total rebounds (50) on the night … Mia Chapman led Dickinson with 14 points and tied for the team lead with nine rebounds … Kaila Fitzpatrick led York with a season-high eight points as she went 3-for-3 from the field.
