Men's Basketball Has Historic Opening Night in New York on Friday

Wagner earns first coaching win while Rowe scores his 1,000 point

Box Score GENEVA, NY – The York College Men's Basketball opened their 2025-26 season with a 85-67 win  at Hobart on Friday evening .The Green and White used as late first half run to take an early on season lid-lift, a lead they wouldn't surrender. 
The game was full of milestones for the Spartans as first-year head coach Jared Wagner earned his first career win. Senior wing Jayden Rowe also scored his 1,000th career point with his first bucket of the evening a just 1:29 into the game.
York improves to to 1-0 overall while the Statesmen fall to 0-1.
 
How It Happened
The Statesmen took an early 7-4 before Jayden Rowe reached 1,000 career points with his three-pointer at the 17:51 left in the first half. The game continued to be evenly played as the Spartans scored 13 of the next 24 points of the game to take a 23-21 lead with 8:37 left in the half.
• York ended the first half strongly as they went on a 20-13 spurt to end the opening half play with a 43-34 lead. York shot 48.3% from the field in the first half including 50% from three in the first half while Hobart shot 38.4% overall and 66.7% from three.
• The Green and White opened the second half on a 9-2 run to forge out to a 52-36 lead with 16:32 left in regulation. York continued to tack onto the lead as Nick Schroeder drilled a three at the 14 minute mark to push the lead 60-41. The Spartan lead reached a game-high 24 points on a Tate Landis triple with 7:29 before settling for a 17-point road victory.
 
By the Numbers
The Spartans shot 45.6% (17-for-39) from the floor in the game including 40% (12-for-30) from three … Hobart converted 41% (25-for-27) from the floor including 37.5% (6-for-16) from three … the Statesmen shot 64.7% (11-for-17) …The Spartans out-rebounded the Statesmen 44-35 for the game which led to a 15-5 advanced in second chance points … the bench points were incredibly close as Hobart held a 26-25 margin … York was blanked 12-0 in fast break points … the Spartans held a 36-25 points in the paint advantage … Alex Moesch led the way for the Statesmen as he had 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. Dorian Paki added 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal for Hobart … Allen Mordi was the third Statesmen in double figures with 11 points.
 
Spartan Notes
The meeting was the second all-time between the two programs … senior guard Jayden Rowe became the 28th player in school history to reach 1,000 career point … Rowe is the fourth Spartan in the last calendar year to reach the milestone …. Senior Tate Landis led the way offensively as he poured in 18 points as he was 6-for-11 from the floor, 4-for 8 from three and 2-for-2 from the stripe … Landis also had five rebounds, four steals and steals … Rowe added 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots … grad senior Cooper Haberern made his Spartan debut a great one with 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double … senior Aleks Smith recorded a career-high 23 points as he was 4-for-6 from the floor and 3-for 4 from the stripe … Haberern, Kai Stryhn, Theo Burke, Elijah Cline and Camden Ochs each made their Spartan debute in the win.
