WESTMINSTER, MD – The York College women's basketball squad dropped their 2025-26 season opener 74-56 at McDaniel College on Tuesday evening in Westminster, Maryland.
The game was the debut for first year year coach
Katie Kilpatrick as she had her Spartans on top after the first quarter.
The Green Terror improve to 3-0 overall while the Spartans fall to 0-1 with the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Green Terror sprinted out to a 9-2 lead McDaniel looked to carry the momentum of a season-opening two game win streak. The Spartans got off the deck as they finished the first quarter with a 10-2 run as they held a 12-11 lead after ten minutes of play.
• The Spartans shot 50% in the first half but had 11 less attempts from the field, largely in part of the fact that York turned the ball over five times.
• McDaniel came out of the quarter break and hit the Spartans with a 19-2 run, turning a one point Spartan lead into a 16 point (30-24) McDaniel bulge. York fashioned a 13-6 spurt to cut the lead back to 36-27 with 1:03 left. McDaniel scored the final five points of the break to take a 41-27 lead to the intermission.
• McDaniel went 12-for-16 from the field while the Spartans went just 3-11 from the field in the second quarter. Turnovers were again a problem for York as they had eight miscues in the second.
• The Green Terror scored 16 of the first 24 points of the third as they pushed out an 18-point lead with 2:23 left in the quarter. The fourth quarter was much of the same as every time the Spartans made a little run, the Green Terror was there to answer, not allowing the Spartans to trim the lead below 15 points.
