York Blanks Washington 1-0 for Third Straight Shutout

Chase Broughman earned his third straight clean sheet

YORK, PA – The York College men's soccer squad picked up their third straight shutout with a 1-0 win over Washington College on Tuesday evening in York.
The Spartans are 2-0-1 over their last three with the clean sheets.
York improves to 6-3-4 overall while the Shoremen fall to 3-5-4.

How It Happened
The Spartans really carried the play throughout the opening 45 minutes of play. York had a majority of the possession of the first half but that possession didn't result in anything fruitful. In fact, there were zero shots on goal in the first half. The Spartans had a goal called back after an offsides infraction with less than a minute left in the half.
• York had a second goal called back by a second offsides seven minutes into the second half. The Spartan pressure finally paid dividends in the 57th minute. Gavin Huey hit a strike that was saved by goalie Hannes Budde. Fortunately for the Spartans, the rebound came out perfectly Dylan Sayer who sent the ball into the back of the cage for the 1-0 Spartan lead.
• York continued to have the better of the play until there was five minutes left in the game. The Shoremen had their best shot of the game with 15 seconds left as Tshazi Kamau hit an absolute rocket off the cross bar but fortunately for York, it caromed away and the Spartans finished off the remainder of the game.
• York finished the game with a 17-9 margin in total shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. York also had a 5-3 margin in corner kicks for the game. York had three offsides calls that cost them two goals.

Spartan Notes
York now leads the all-time series against the Shoremen 6-4-2 … the win for York snaps a series of back-to-back ties between the two programs … the goal for Dylan Sayer came in his first collegiate start and just his fifth career game … Sayer played a career-high 53 minutes in the win … Gavin Huey picked up his second assist of the year … the shutout for Chase Broughman was his third of the year while the Spartans have five clean sheets for the year … York now has eight games in which they have posted 15 shots or more … York is now done with non-conference play this year as they finished 5-3-4 in non-conference action including 2-1-2 at home, 3-1-2 in away games and 0-1 in neutral site games for the fall.
