Spartans and Golden Wolves Tie in Saturday Commonwealth Play

Owen Henderlite notched York's lone goal in the first half

READING, PA – The York College men's soccer team suffered a 1-1 tie with Alvernia University on a damp Saturday evening in Reading, PA.
The game was an example of two different halves as the Spartans carried the play in the opening 45 minutes only to have the Golden Wolves flip the script in the second half.
The Spartans are now 6-3-5 overall and 1-0-1 in the MAC Commonwealth while the Golden Wolves are now 2-7-4 and 0-1-1 in the Commonwealth.

How It Happened
• The Spartans controlled the pace of play in the first half. The Spartans put the first goal of the board in the 31st minute as Aiden Hall drew a penalty shot off a short corner. Hall was taken down inside the box as he drove to the goal. Senior Owen Henderlite stepped up and converted the PK for the 1-0 lead.
• York held a 9-2 edge in total first half shots but just a 2-1 margin in shots on goal. York also had a 5-0 bulge in corners in the opening 45 minutes of play.
• The Golden Wolves turned the game around after the halftime break as they became the aggressors. That aggression paid off with the equalizing goal in the 63rd minute of the game. The Golden Wolves drew a foul just outside the box on the wing. Alvernia played the ball into Eli Klinger who tapped a pass to Jackson Taliani. Taliani knocked home the pass, knotting the game at one.
• The Spartans dodged a bullet with just over 7:30 left in the game as the Green and White defense cleared a ball off the line as it looked like the Spartans would go down on goal.
• Alvernia out shot York 12-9 in the second half with a 6-0 margin in shots on goal.
• For the match, York had an 18-14 advantage in total shots but just two of York's shots were on goal as the Golden Wolves held a 7-2 margin in shots on goal. York finished the contest with a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
