Henderlite PK Lifts Spartans to Victory in Conference Opener

YORK, Pa. - The York men's soccer team opened Commonwealth play on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Albright in front of a robust Homecoming crowd at Graham Field.

Team Records
Albright 5-2-3 (0-1-0 MACC)
York 5-3-4 (1-0-0 MACC)

How It Happened
The two sides played to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first 45 minutes. York had the field severely tilted in their favor throughout the first half as evidence of a 14-1 total shot advantage and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Despite being under duress, the Lions defended well as keeper Mike Lawry posted five saves in addition to seven blocked shots by the rest of the Albright defensive unit.

The Spartans came out firing to start the second half of play as they racked up six shots in the first four minutes of play. Lawry managed to get a hand on three of those shots as his save total swelled to eight on the day.

York's early second half pressure continued to mount which led to a handball foul in the box by Albright. As a result of the foul, the Spartans were awarded a penalty kick in the 51st minute which Owen Henderlite executed perfectly for his first goal of the season to give York a 1-0 lead.

Henderlite's PK tally would hold as the lone goal of the game as York outshot Albright 6-3 the rest of the way with a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Spartans wound up with a 28-6 advantage in total shots for the day, including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal in addition to a 9-2 margin in corners.

Up Next
The Spartans will be back at Graham Field on Tuesday night to take on Washington (Md.) in a nonconference tilt.
