YORK, PA – The York College field hockey squad dropped a tight 2-0 decision to #1 Christopher Newport University on a brilliantly sunny Saturday afternoon in York.

The Captains improve to 10-0 overall as they pitched their eighth shutout of the year. York falls to 5-5 overall as they have dropped three straight.

How It Happened
• The game was very defensive oriented early on as neither team had any significant offensive momentum. The Captains slowly wrestled momentum to their side with led to the game's opening goal. Caroline Hughlett captured a loose ball just outside of the restraining line. She ripped a pass to Lindsay Loar who spun and fired the ball into the back of the Spartan cage and the 1-0 lead. It's Loar's sixth goal of the year.
• The second quarter was bereft of many offensive chances as there were two total shots in the period, both by CNU.
• The pace picked up in the third quarter as the teams made halftime adjustments. The Captains pressured the Spartans late in the quarter which led to a penalty stroke off a penalty corner. Caroline Hughlett finished off the stroke inside the right post for the 2-0 lead.
• The final quarter was much like the second, lacking much offensive punch. The Captains finished the game with a 13-1 edge in total shots and a 6-0 margin in shots on goal. The Captains also held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners for the game.
