Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. – The #19 York College field hockey squad downed SUNY Cortland 2-0 in the Spartans final non-conference contest of the year on Wednesday afternoon in Cortland, N.Y.
The Spartans got a goal in the first and an insurance tally in the second as they snapped their three-game losing skid.
The #19 Spartans are now 6-5 overall while the Red Dragons are 4-7 overall.

How It Happened
• The Spartans carried the play in the opening quarter of play. York had a few opportunities on penalty corners early in the game. The Green and White took advantage of their third penalty corner as
Hannah Downs inserted the ball to
Katelyn Landis. The freshman forward took a touch and unleashed a rocket into the back of the cage that gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead 12:33 into the game.
• The Spartans out shot the Red Dragons 4-0 including 3-0 in shots on goal in the opening quarter of play.
• The Green and White added to the lead just 1:05 into the second quarter as York drew another penalty corner. The start of the corner was a little ragged but the Spartans eventually swung the ball to the opposite side of the arc.
Michaela Cokinos drilled a ball into the circle where
Claire Burrows redirected the shot into the goal for her third goal of the year and the 2-0 lead.
• The remainder of the second half saw the Spartans maintain the majority of possession, holding a 2-0 advantage in total shots for the quarter.
• The Spartans had a few chances off corners in the third but the Red Dragons kept them off the board including some nice plays by Cortland goalie Emma Morgan. Cortland was able to squeeze of their first shot of the game off a penalty corner with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. York held a 5-1 advantage in shots while both teams had a shot on goal.
• The fourth quarter was uneventful offensively as neither team threatened in the quarter.
• For the game, York had a 13-2 bulge in total shots and a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Spartans held a commanding 8-3 margin in penalty corners for the match.
