How It Happened
• The game was back and forth from the beginning as neither team could assert full control of the match. The Spartans had a small spurt in the 22
nd minute as
Aiden Hall hit the crossbar followed by a
Gavin Huey shot on goal. About four minutes later the Spartans drew a foul outside the left side of the box.
Colin Findlay lifted a pass towards the near left post. The pass hit an on-rushing Huey who flipped a shot off the far-right post and into the goal for the 1-0 Spartan lead.
• The Spartans held an 8-5 margin in shots and 6-2 in corners in the first 45 minutes of play.
• The Pride tied the game 18 minutes into the second half on a great individual effort by Max Hartke. Hartke captured a loose ball about 40 yards away from goal. He single-handedly drove the ball down the field toward the goal. He dribbled into the box and unleashed a shot inside the right post to tie the game 1-1. York used the next ten minutes to fire off three shots on goal but Widener goalie Tristan Willey made three saves to keep the game tied.
• Each team had a pair of shots on goal in the final ten minutes of the game but none of those opportunities had a chance to break the tie. The Spartans finished the game with a 16-12 edge in total shots and a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. The Green and White also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks for the game. York was called for six offsides in the game.
