Women's Soccer Stays Hot with Sixth Straight Win

Meg Kalthof added two more goals to the Green and White attack

FREDERICK, MD – The York College women's soccer team ran their win streak to six with a 5-0 MAC Commonwealth win at Hood College on Tuesday night in Frederick, Maryland.
The Spartans got two goals in the first and then salted away the win with a three-goal second half.
The Spartans are now 11-3-2 overall and 4-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. Hood falls to 3-11-2 overall and 0-3-1 in league play.

How It Happened
The Spartans came out of the kick off rolling as they applied pressure to the Hood defense almost immediately. Carissa Baugus fired off York's first shot of the game and banged it off the crossbar. The Spartans continued to pepper the Blazer goal without anything to show for it.
• That changed in the 29th minute as York drew a corner kick. Abby Brown fired the kick to the far back post where Meg Kalthof finished off the pass for the 1-0 lead. York added to the lead just over four minutes later as they drew another corner kick. This time Emma Woods served the ball into the box where Alyssa Hartman finished off the chance for the 2-0 Spartan lead.
• York out-shot the Blazers 12-1 in the first half including 4-0 in shots on goal. The Spartans had an 8-1 bulge in corner kicks.
• The Spartans kept rolling in the second half as they tallied a third goal in the 55th minute of play. Brown fired an initial shot that was saved by Hood goalie Ashley Stine. Unfortunately for the Blazers, Kalthof was in the right spot for the rebound as she knocked home her second of the game for the three-goal bulge.
• Junior Jena Witters pushed the lead to 4-0 shortly after entering the game in the 66th minute. She collected a loose ball and unleashed a shot from 10 yards beyond the top of the box. The shot bounced off the crossbar and went straight down into the goal for her first collegiate goal.
• The game's fifth goal came in the 82nd minute as the Blazers were credited with an own goal on a failed clear of a Spartan attack. The Spartans finished the game with a 23-5 margin in total shots including 9-2 in shots on goal. The Green and White also held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.
