York Notches Third-Straight Shutout

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team scored early and put together a stout defensive performance to achieve a 1-0 victory over Clarkson at a rain-soaked Graham Field on Saturday.

Team Records
Clarkson 1-2-0
York 3-0-1

How It Happened
York had the jump on Clarkson early and found paydirt in the 15th minute of play. Alyssa Russell gave the Spartans possession as she intercepted a pass in front of the visitor bench and then swung a pass to Olivia Dingman in the middle. Dingman quickly sent a beautiful through ball to a streaking Julianna Schilling up the right side who ran on and blistered a shot to the back of the net for her first tally of the season.

Clarkson had several chances to net an equalizer throughout the first half as the Golden Knights racked up nine total shots, but Spartan keeper Joss Metz was up to the task as she made four saves and seemed unfazed by the adverse weather conditions.

The Golden Knights threatened early in the second half, but Metz again rose to the occasion with a save in the 64th minute. The Spartan defense ultimately shutdown Clarkson the rest of the way as York surrendered just two total shots in the second half with zero corner kicks.

Notes
Saturday marked the inaugural meeting between the two programs … the Spartans notched their third-straight shutout of the young season … Joss Metz now has three solo clean sheets and has played 281 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal … the Spartans are off to their first unbeaten start through their first four games since 2007 … the last time Clarkson suffered a shutout was Oct. 14, 2023 (seven-straight games) … the last road loss for the Golden Knights was on Oct. 7, 2023.
