LANCASTER, PA – The York College women's soccer team maintained their strong start to the season as they battled a veteran Franklin & Marshall College squad to a scoreless tie on Wednesday night in Lancaster, PA.
The Spartan shutout streak reached 416:17 as York has not surrendered a goal since the season-opener at PSU Berks.
The Spartans are now 3-0-2 while the Diplomats are 0-2-2.
How It Happened
• The game was a physical one from the start as the two teams battled back and forth. The Diplomats held a slight 6-4 edge in first half shots. First year Spartan goalie
Joss Metz was again outstanding as she collected five first half saves to keep the Diplomats off the board.
• The second half saw the Diplomats turn up the pressure on the Green and White. However, Metz and the Spartan defense were up to the task. Metz made four more saves in the second half to complete the clean sheet.
• F&M finished the game with a 16-9 edge in total shots and a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. The Diplomats had a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The tie snaps a seven game losing streak in the series for the Spartans … F&M leads the series 10-2-1 all-time … the previous seven meetings between the two programs all resulted in one-goal wins for the Diplomats … the Spartans have yet to surrender a goal in the run of play as their only goal allowed came on a PSU Berks penalty kick in the first half of the season opener on August 30 … the Spartans were shutout for the second time this season (Sept. 1 at Ithaca) … first year keeper
Joss Metz has been simply outstanding and Wednesday night she set a new career-high with nine saves … she has now posted four straight shutouts … her save percentage for the season is now .960% while her goals against average is 0.22 … Metz has made 23 saves in the last four games.

The Spartans continue their brief two game road trip on Sunday afternoon as they head to Lexington, Virginia to face the Washington & Lee Generals in a big regional match up. The meeting between the two programs will be the first since September 16, 2017 when the teams tied 0-0 in Lexington.
