Spartans Open Commonwealth Play With Win at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - The Spartan women's volleyball team rallied back with three-straight set wins for a 3-1 victory at Hood on Wednesday as both teams opened Commonwealth play.

How It Happened
The Blazers opened the first set on a 6-1 run and led wire to wire on their way to a 25-18 win. Hood's Ann Ofoegbu led all players with four kills as the Blazers hit .269 as a group in the opening set.

The Spartans pulled out in front late in set number two for a 25-22 win as the two teams combined for eight ties in the frame. Liz Kerin contributed three kills on a late 5-2 York run which ultimately sealed the win for York. Kerin led all players with four kills in the set as she hit .444.

York never trailed in the third set as the Green and White prevailed 25-21. Morgan Nolte notched two of her team-leading four kills on a late 7-3 lead run which clinched the set for the Spartans.

The Spartans edged out a 25-22 win in set number three after the two teams traded the lead six times throughout the set. Tied, 20-20, Kerin went on to record three service aces which fueled a 5-2 run to seal the set and the match. 

Notes
The Spartans have won 12-straight against the Blazers dating back to 2007 … York picked up their first road win of the season while Hood is still winless at home this season … Morgan Nolte led York with 12 kills while hitting .400 with three blocks … Jennifer Taylor racked up 10 kills … Lily Morton led York with 11 digs and four service aces.

What's Next
The Spartans return home on Tuesday to take on Eastern in a Commonwealth clash set for 7 p.m.
