Women's Soccer Strikes Quick in Win over Salisbury

York scored two goals in the opening 8:31 of the game

YORK, PA – The York College women's soccer team remained unbeaten at home as the Green and White downed Salisbury University 2-1 in a non-conference match on a dreary Wednesday night in York.
The Spartans scored their two goals in the opening 8:31 of the game and maintained the lead the rest of the way as they improved to 3-0-1 at Graham Field.
York improves to 5-1-3 overall while the Gulls fall to 3-2-5.

How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board. Jaelynn Small took a shot from 30 yards out. Sea Gull goalie Hayle Foreman made the initial stop on the shot but wasn't able to control the rebound. Meg Kalthof back heeled the loose ball to Gabby Jennings who settled the ball and drove the ball into the back of the cage a mere 1:23 into the game.
• York made it 2-0 in the ninth minute of the game as Kalthof pressured a Sea Gull defender, gained possession and put home a one-timer for the 2-0 lead.
• The Spartans controlled the remainder of the half as the York defense held the Gulls without a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play. York finished the half with a 6-5 edge in total shots and a 3-0 margin in shots on goal.
• The Spartans got the first two shots of the second half as Julianna Schilling and Kaltof forced Foreman to make a pair of saves in the first 10 minutes of the half. The Sea Gulls got their first shot on goal in the 74th minute as Joss Metz recorded her first save of the game. The Sea Gulls earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 78th minute. On the second corner kick, Lauren Chesney collected a loose ball on the right wing. She lofted a shot that looked like it was going to be wide but the ball caught the far left post and bounced into the goal, slicing the Spartan lead in half. Metz was forced to make three saves over the final 10:30 of the game to preserve the Spartan lead.
• The teams finished with 12 shots each while York held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Salisbury had a 5-3 margin in corner kicks and a 5-4 advantage in saves.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans have now won four straight in the series with the Sea Gulls but Salisbury still owns an 18-14-3 advantage in the all-time series … all four of York's last four wins in the series have come by one goal … the Spartans allowed their first goal at home this year and just their fourth goal of the year and third in the run of play … the Salisbury goal snapped a Spartan home shutout streak at 231:38 … the Spartans have now scored six of their eight goals in three games … the Spartans put seven shots on goal, their second-highest total of the year … sophomore Meg Kalthof has had a hand in each of York's last four goals as she assisted on both goals on Saturday at DeSales before assisting on the first and scoring the second against Salisbury … the goal for Kalthof was her second of the year and her 13th career tally … first year Spartan Gabby Jennings notched her first collegiate goal with the game-winner … freshman Joss Metz earned her fifth win of the year as she made four second half saves in the victory.
