Spartans Rack Up Sixth Shutout in Victory at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The York women's soccer team capped off an unbeaten week with a 2-0 victory at DeSales.

The Spartans tallied twice in the second half on a pair of corner set pieces with Meg Kalthof notching both assists, while the York defense racked up their sixth shutout of the season.

Team Records
York 4-1-3
DeSales 2-5-1

How It Happened
Both teams were busy right from the start with a combined three total shots within the first 11 minutes. DeSales fired the first shot on goal in the eighth minute of play and Spartan keeper Joss Metz was up to the task and snared Emma Ribeiro's shot.

The Bulldog offense went quiet the rest of the first half and the Spartans went on the offensive. York fired 10 total shots and racked up four corner kicks, but only managed to land two shots on target as the two teams went into halftime tied, 0-0.

York wasted little time coming out of halftime to break the scoreless draw as Morgan Joyce found the back of the net in the 49th minute on a corner set play. Meg Kalthof served the ball in and found Joyce camped out in the middle of the box. Joyce headed the the ball towards the net and it took a wicked bounce over the outstretched hand of Saige Santa Cruz for the game's first tally.

The Spartans remained on the offensive and their efforts paid off in the 57th minute on another corner set piece. Kalthof once again swung the ball in from the corner and this time found the head of Sara Frensley who slipped in on the back side of the play to finish inside the right post for her first goal of the season.

The Spartans went on to finish the job and preserved the shutout with Metz (3) and Madison O'Brien (1) combining for four saves in the final 33 minutes.

Notes
