Spartans Post Another Shutout to Protect Home Turf Against Dickinson

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team racked up their fifth shutout to remain unbeaten at home this season following a 0-0 draw with Dickinson on Wednesday evening at Graham Field.

Team Records
Dickinson 4-1-1
York 3-1-3

How It Happened
The Spartans racked up four of their seven first half shots within the first nine minutes with three by Meg Kalthof. The Dutchmen responded with two of their own before the game reached the 20-minute mark with one on goal by Ava Prisco.

York owned a 7-6 edge in total shots after the first 45 minutes of play with Dickinson owning a 3-2 margin in shots on goal. Both teams had one corner kick each.

The Spartans turned up the pressure in the second half and generated a total of six corner kicks including four within the 16 minutes, but could generate a shot during that opening flurry.

The offensive pressure cooled off until the closing minutes of the game when both teams generated quality chances. Kalthof had a clean look on goal in the 87th minute as she broke away from her defender but her shot sailed just high of the crossbar on a shot from well inside the 18-yard line.

Dickinson mounted one last surge in the 89th minute and it nearly paid big dividends if not for the herculean efforts by Spartan keeper Joss Metz who snared a cracker by Mckenna Gross to secure the shutout for the Spartans. Gross settled a loose ball in the box and let it fly from 15-yards out, but Metz fully extended to her left to deflect the blistered shot wide of the net out of harm's way.
