FLEETWOOD, PA – The York College men's golf squad sit second after day one of the 2024 MAC Commonwealth championships at Golden Oak Country Club in Fleetwood, PA.
Stevenson leads the tournament as they shot 300 during Saturday's opening round. York is second at 303 followed by Hood at 306. Albright is fourth at 310 followed by Alvernia at 313 in fifth and Easter with 319.
York was led by junior
Matthew Salter as he shot a one over par 73 as he finished tied for second with Hood's Will Kujawa. The duo trail tournament leader Zachary Wilcax from Stevenson who shot a four-under-par 68 on Saturday.
Freshman
Thomas O'Connell had a strong day one in his first conference tournament as he shot a three-over-par 75. O'Connell is tied for fourth with Hood's Sam Driscoll.
Junior
Jason Velez was York's third scorer as he tied for ninth with a five-over-par 77 in round one.
Gavin Ganter and
Jacob Fripp are tied for 14
th as they both shot 78 for the Green and White.
The Spartans start Sunday's final round at 10:45 as O'Connell will be the first Spartan on the course. Fripp goes off at 10:54 followed by Ganter at 11:03 am. Velez tees off at 11:12 and Salter will be the final Spartan on the course at 11:21 am.
