Spartans Drop One-Run Decision at #20 Rowan

The Spartans fall to 3-3 against nationally ranked teams this year

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The York College baseball squad dropped a tight 6-5 game at #20 Rowan University in a regional battle on Tuesday afternoon.
The teams each had one big inning but unfortunately for York, Rowan's big inning was just one run better than York's.
The Spartans have now lost three straight as they fall to 17-11 overall. The Profs improve to 17-9 overall.

LOB: York 10; Rowan 10
WP: Nick Cugino (1-0); LP: Eric Chaney (0-1); Save: Sean Colbert (3)

How It Happened
• York got off to a quick start as the Spartans got a run on two hits and an error for the 1-0 lead. Robby Elzinga scored when Michael Tinneny reached on an error. The Profs wasted little time in responding in the bottom of the first. After a ground out to start the inning, Rowan got a single from Phil Sedalis and Jason Morgan followed with a walk to put runners at first and second. Rowan's Dylan Maria singled home Sedalis as Morgan moved to third with one out. Anthony Schooley doubled to center, scoring Morgan and moving Maria to third with only one out. Karson Harcourt reached on a Spartan error and that extended the inning, allowing shortstop Chris Serrano to rip a double to center, giving the Profs a 4-1 lead.
• York got one run back in the top of the second as Connor Pickle launched a lead-off home run, his first round tripper of the year and third of his career.
• After Rowan went quietly in the second, the Spartans erupted for their big inning. The Spartans loaded the bases to lead off the inning on an error and back-to-back singles. Pickle drew a walk to drive home York's third run. York's fourth run came on a double-play ground ball. Joe Urban made it 5-4 Spartans with a double down the left field line to score Andrew Santarpia with the go ahead run.
• The Spartan lead lasted for exactly two batters as Harcourt blasted a solo homer with one out in the fourth, tying the game at five.
• Rowan got the winning run in the fourth as they manufactured a single tally. Sedalis doubled to center, moved to third on a fly out to right and scored on a Maria sacrifice fly.
• York got a runner on third with one out in the sixth but the Profs escaped the jam without any damage. York was never able to threaten the remainder of the game.
