Harnick Sets Goal Record as Spartans Defeat Eastern

YORK, Pa. - The Spartan men's lacrosse team racked up their third-straight win following Saturday's 15-11 home conference victory over Eastern.

The Spartans took control of the game with a 7-0 run to take an 8-1 lead midway through the second quarter and protected their lead the rest of the way.

Will Harnick became the program's all-time goal leader with his third of four tallies on the day and now sits at 208 for his career.

Team Records
Eastern 4-9 (0-3 MACC)
(RV) York 6-7 (3-0 MACC)

How It Happened
After five scoreless minutes, the Spartans and Eagles traded goals two minutes apart as the score stood knotted up at 1-1. From there, York went on a 7-0 run to take an 8-1 lead with 8:47 left in the second quarter. Will Harnick fueled that run as he scored four-straight goals on his way to clinching the Spartan goal record. Vinny Facciponti was also vital to York's early success as he racked up three points and won seven of eight faceoffs through the first quarter and half of play.

Eastern goalie Ethan Myers put a sudden halt to York's run as he scored on a wide open net from three-quarters of the way down the field and in severe windy conditions. Gavin Stark tacked on another Eastern goal just moments later as the Eagles trimmed the Spartan lead down to five with under five minutes to play in the second quarter.

The Spartans went on to score two more times in the final five minutes of the first half with tallies by Davis Fisher and Jack Grayson to bump the lead to six at the break. The Spartans dominated the first half stats as they owned a 13-3 edge in faceoffs, a 23-18 advantage in ground balls and a 30-15 lead in shots. In addition to scoring a goal, Myers was also busy and productive defensively as he made 11 first half-saves for EU.

York and Eastern each netted three goals in the third quarter as the Eagles failed to make up any ground and trailed 13-7 with one quarter left to play. Michael Russo, Cory Bergmann and Fisher accounted for the third-quarter scoring for the Spartans as York had possession a lot throughout the quarter after winning six of seven faceoffs.

Jackson Shields delivered the dagger for York as he scored early in the fourth quarter to put the Spartans back up by seven. The Eagles made some noise late by scoring the next three-straight goals and ended with a 4-2 goal advantage in the fourth quarter despite looking up at a 5-1 faceoff deficit for the period.

Up Next
The Spartans remain home for a Wednesday for a big Commonwealth clash with rival Stevenson. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Kinsley Field.
