Spartans Corral Mustangs in Commonwealth Clash

YORK, Pa. - The Spartan men's lacrosse team jumped out in front early on their way to a dominant 19-7 Commonwealth victory over Stevenson at Kinsley Field on Wednesday night.

The Spartans set the tone as they ripped off eight unanswered goals to start the game on their way to a 13-3 halftime lead. York kept momentum on their side throughout the evening with a 23-7 advantage in faceoff wins to go along with a 51-29 shot margin and a 46-26 edge in ground balls.

How It Happened
Will Harnick had the hot hand early on for York as he contributed to York's first three goals by scoring two and assisting on the third to give the Green and White a 3-0 lead five minutes in. The Spartans did not lift their foot off the gas as they racked up four more goals in a three-minute span as they took a 9-1 lead at the end of one quarter of play.

The Mustangs went 2-for-2 on the extra-man unit in the second quarter, but it was not enough to keep pace with the Spartans who doubled-up Stevenson in goals (4-2) in the period to take a 13-3 lead at the halftime break. Davis Fisher led the York offense in the second quarter with a pair of goals and an assist, while Vinny Facciponti won four of six faceoffs in the period to go along with a goal.

The Mustangs matched the Spartans in the third quarter with three goals each and scored their only consecutive goals of the game as Ed Masterson and Jack Scaliti went back-to-back to cut the deficit to nine with 4:01 left in the quarter. Michael Russo scored on the very next Spartan possession to swell the York lead back up to 10 with his 13th tally of the season.

York closed out the game with a 3-1 fourth quarter advantage with Blake Morton, Cory Bergmann and Jack Grayson all finding the back of the net for the Green and White.
