YORK, Pa. - The 10th-ranked York men's lacrosse came up short in a 17-11 outcome against No. 1 Salisbury on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon at Kinsley Field.

The two teams combined for nine goals in a back-and-forth third quarter which resulted in a 14-11 Salisbury lead heading into the final frame. The Sea Gulls put the clamps down in the fourth as they won all four faceoffs and held York without a goal with just two total shots.

How It Happened

  • Coleton Mahorny stopped the bleeding as he netted the opening goal of the second quarter to even things up, 5-5, but Salisbury registered back-to-back tallies to take a 7-5 lead with 9:23 left in the second. The two teams swapped goals twice before the end of the first half as the Sea Gulls held serve and took a 9-7 advantage into the locker room.
  • The Spartans dominated the ground ball battle (23-11) and faceoff battle (13-5) in the first half, but the Sea Gulls scored on every shot they threw on goal while denying York six times.
  • Jack Grayson netted the opening tally of the third quarter to cut the SU lead to one, but Salisbury rallied quickly and scored three-straight in less than three minutes to bump the lead to 12-8 with 7:11 left in the third.
  • The two teams combined for five goals in the final four minutes of the third quarter as Mahorney tallied twice for York, including the final goal of the period, as the Spartans trailed by three heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls scored twice in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter and then went on to play stall ball which limited the Spartans to just three total possessions in the final 15 minutes.
