ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – The York College men's golf squad competed at the 2024 McDaniel Spring Invitational at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, PA on Sunday. The tournament was scheduled as a two-day event but the heavy rains Saturday washed out round one.
The Spartans finished eighth of 18 teams as they shot 321 for the round. Swarthmore won the team title as they carded a team total of 299. Franklin & Marshall finished one stroke back in second followed by Gettysburg (305), Farmingdale State (309) and the host Green Terror (312) rounded out the top five team finishes.
Spartan junior
Jason Velez led the squad as he tied for ninth, shooting a five-over-par 77. Velez found himself in an eight-way tied for ninth place.Â
Matthew Salter was York's second finisher as he tied for 38
th with a score of 80.
Gavin Ganter and
Jacob Fripp finished two strokes back of Salter with an 82 as they finished the day tied for 45th.
Freshman
Thomas O'Connell was York's fifth tournament participant as he carded an 84 to finish 58
th.
The Spartans are now off until Thursday, April 4 when they travel to the Elizabethtown College Invitational at Hershey Country Club East Course. The tournament is slated for a 12:00 pm start.Â
