How It Happened
Spartan goalie Bella Garabo set the tone when she came up with a save on a free-position shot by Washington's MaryCate Anson 26 seconds into the game. York went on to score four goals in less than three minutes and end the first quarter with a 7-1 lead. Sydney Mentzer led York with three points in the opening quarter with two goals and an assist. The Spartans peppered Washington netminder McKenna Seashole with 12 total shots in the first quarter with nine finding their way on goal.

The two teams played a more even second quarter with Washington out-scoring York, 4-3, but the Spartans still managed to reach double-digits as they took a 10-5 lead into halftime. Zoe Kluegel and Madison Kurland both scored for the second time on the day and Kate Walsh scored her first of the season.

The Shorewomen fought back to within three with 9:03 left in the third quarter as Ashley Devlin capped off a three-goal for Washington which stretched back to the second quarter. Walsh responded for York with a pair of goals, including one on the woman-up advantage, to push the lead back to five late in the third. Anson managed to put one more goal on the board for Washington in the final minute as the Shorewomen trailed, 12-8, heading into the fourth quarter.

After the two teams traded goals to start the fourth, York put the game out of reach with a run of three-straight goals in a span of less than two minutes midway through the period. Kurland started the run with a woman-up goal for her third of the day and Sofie Steel capped the run with her third tally of the game for her first-career hat trick.
