#6 Bullets Out-Duel #14 Spartans

YORK, Pa. - The 14th-ranked York women's lacrosse team could not overcome an early deficit in a 18-12 loss to No. 6 Gettysburg on a blustery Wednesday evening at Kinsley Field.

The Bullets forced the Spartans to chase the game from behind all day as Gettysburg used an opening 5-0 run to put the pressure on York the rest of the way.

How It Happened
Jordan Basso and Emily Crane netted goals less than two minutes apart which sparked a five-goal run by the bullets to start the game. Caroline Sullivan also had a hot hand as she assisted on the last three of those Bullet goals and finished six total on the day. Zoe Kluegel broke a 14-minute Spartan scoring drought as she tallied her 14th goal of the season with one minute left in the first quarter to get York on the board for the first time.

The Bullets statistically dominated the second quarter, but only managed to tie, 3-3, on the scoreboard due in large part by the play of Spartan goalie Bella Garabo. Gettysburg won five of the seven draws in the quarter and out-shot the Spartans, 11-4, with nine shots on goal, but were turned away six times by Garabo who kept the game from getting out of hand. The Spartans made the most of their limited offensive chances due to their nine turnovers in the quarter and scored three times on just four total shots as they trailed 8-4 at halftime.

Sydney Mentzer netted a pair of goals for York in the third quarter and her second cut the Bullet lead to three (10-7) with 5:52 left in the period. York struggled to sustain any momentum as Gettysburg won eight of the 10 draw controls and went on to score three times in the final four minutes of the third as the Bullet lead swelled to 13-8 by quarter's end.

Basso and Crane struck quickly for the Bullets to start the fourth quarter as they put Gettysburg up 15-8 within the first two minutes to put the game out of reach. The Bullets suppressed the Spartans even further by winning nine of the 10 draws in the fourth quarter which ultimately secured the Gettysburg victory.

Up Next
