#11 Spartans Fall Short Against #4 Dickinson at Mustang Classic

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The No. 11 York men's lacrosse team closed out their 2024 stint at the Mustang Classic with an 11-8 loss to No. 4 Dickinson on Saturday.

After falling into a four-goal hole in the first quarter, the Spartans battled back several times and cut the deficit to one at the end of the third quarter before a plague of 10 fourth-quarter turnovers handcuffed York's chances of a comeback victory.

#11 York 2-5
#4 Dickinson 6-1

How It Happened
  • For the second-straight game and the third time in the last four games, the Spartans found themselves looking up at a four-goal deficit early in the first half. Against Dickinson, York fell behind 5-1 in the first quarter as the Red Devils ripped off five-straight after Coleton Mahorney netted the game's opening tally for the Green and White.
  • The Spartans went on a run of their own with four-straight goals which tied the game, 5-5, 15 seconds into the third quarter. The York defense fueled the comeback run as they pitched a shutout in the second quarter and the Spartans kept the turnovers to a minimum with just four while the Red Devils handed the ball over seven times in the period.
  • Dickinson rescinded with four unanswered goals in a span of four minutes to take a 9-5 lead with 10:14 left in the third, which left plenty of time for the Spartans to work with. York took advantage and ripped off three-straight tallies, including a pair by Garrett Keogh, to cut the Dickinson lead to 9-8 at the end of the third.
  • Dickinson dominated the fourth quarter and tacked on two more unanswered goals to seal the win. The Red Devils won both the faceoff battle (3-0) and ground ball battle (7-1) in the fourth quarter, while the Spartans committed 10 turnovers and registered just three total shots in the final period.
