Huge Fourth Quarter Lifts Spartans to Comeback Win Over Lebanon Valley

YORK, Pa. – The Spartans women's basketball squad used a big fourth quarter to overcome a double-digit deficit on their way to a 76-74 victory over Lebanon Valley at home on Wednesday night.

York trailed by 11 after three quarters of play and nearly doubled-up the Dutchmen, 30-17, in the fourth quarter to pull off the comeback win. The Spartans shot a staggering 78.6% from the floor in the final quarter with Breana Grim leading the way for York with 11 points in the final period.

How It Happened
The Dutchmen led by as much as six deep into the first quarter, but the Spartans made a late flurry aided by a Breana Grim three-pointer to cut the LVC to three (16-13) by the quarter's end. The two teams played a rather even game offensively through the first 10 minutes as they each shot around 45%, but the Dutchmen managed to hold the lead with a 9-5 advantage in rebounds, including a 3-0 edge in offensive boards.

The Spartans and Dutchmen traded blows as the second quarter unfolded with LVC clinging to a two-point lead with 2:43 left. LVC went on to out-score York 8-2 in the final 2:10 to take a 37-29 lead into halftime. Riley Hevelow heated up and scored six points on LVC's late 8-2 run as she finished with 10 in the second quarter and 14 for the half. The Dutchmen once again won the battle on the boards as they owned an 11-6 lead in the second quarter and finished with a 18-11 advantage in the first half.

LVC began to pull away as the third quarter unfolded and used a 20-10 run to take an 18-point lead, their largest lead of the night, with 2:33 left in the quarter. The Spartans returned fire on their ensuing possession as Grim knocked down a jumper which sparked a 7-0 Spartan run to end the quarter. Despite trailing by 11 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Spartans ended the third quarter with momentum by putting together a key offensive run and holding the Dutchmen scoreless on their final four possessions of the quarter.

York continued to turn the tide into the fourth quarter and out-scored the Dutchmen, 18-9, through the first six minutes as a Morgan Adams layup made it a one-possession game with 4:10 left. LVC held tough and did not relinquish the lead until Alyssa Hocker made a layup with 37 seconds left to put the Spartans up, 72-71. York maintained the lead the rest of the way despite receiving a scare as Hevelow knocked down a three-pointer with three seconds left to make it a one-point game.

Veterans Taylor Burda and Hocker combined to go 4-for-6 at the free throw line in the final 16 seconds which helped ice the game for York. The Spartans also stifled LVC's rebound chances as the Spartans owned an 8-4 edge on the boards in the final quarter to go along with York's impressive 11-for-14 performance from the floor.
