Spartans Work Overtime for Fourth Straight Win

Morgan Adams leads the way for York with 23 points and 14 rebounds

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA – The York College women's basketball squad had to work overtime to earn their fourth straight win as they rallied late to down Lake Forest College 73-70 on Monday in the final game of the Sunshine State Shootout in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Spartans scored the final six points of regulation to force overtime before outscoring the Foresters 9-6 in the extra session.
The Spartans improve to 7-4 overall while the Foresters fall to 2-8.

How It Happened
• The first quarter was back and forth early as Lake Forest surged out to a 10-6 lead less than four minutes into the game. The Spartans put together a 14-4 run to close out the quarter as the Spartans led by six after 10 minutes of play.
• York held the lead for the first five minutes of the second quarter but the Foresters' Rebecca Christodoulou tied the game at 28 on a jumper. Taylor Burda responded with a three pointer to put the Spartans back on top. York maintained the lead the rest of the quarter as they took a 37-34 lead to the intermission.
• The Spartans were cold coming out of the break as Lake Forest started the half on a 7-0 run to take a four-point lead. York went on an 8-1 run to take a 45-43 lead with 2:27 left in the quarter. The Spartans trailed by one with less than 30 seconds left in the quarter but Burda drilled a three to give York a 48-46 lead after 30 minutes of play.
• The Foresters wasted little time in tying the game as Rylie Crecelius drilled a jumper just 23 seconds into the fourth period. Mia Degrasse followed with a made three pointer to push the Forester lead to three. Morgan Adams put together a personal five point run that gave the Spartans a 53-51 lead. The Foresters took temporary control of the game with a 13-5 run as they pushed out to a 64-58 lead with just 2:59 remaining in regulation.
• The Spartan defense stepped up, allowing the offense to get York back into the game. Adams started the game-tying run with a pair of free throws with 2:39 left. Alyssa Hocker cut the Spartan deficit to two on a lay-up at the 2:04 mark. Adams notched the tying bucket with 1:32 left, knotting the game at 64. The Foresters had a chance at a game-winner with seven seconds left but Makenna Zimmerman got a big blocked shot. Lake Forest got the offensive rebound off the block and had a chance at a game-winning three but the shot was off the mark as the teams headed to overtime.
• Lake Forest took their only lead of the overtime on a Crecelius three with 3:41 left in the overtime. The Foresters would hold that one-point lead for almost three minutes before Grim gave York a 69-67 lead with a three-point play with 59 seconds left. York got a stop and Grim was fouled. She knocked down two more free throws to put York up four with 27 seconds left. The Foresters sliced the Spartan lead to one on an Ariana Ferreira-Torrabla three with 19 seconds showing on the clock. The Spartans salted away the win with free throws from Hocker (16 seconds left) and Adams (four seconds) left. The Foresters had a good look from three but the shot caromed away as the final horn sounded.
