READING, PA – The York College women's basketball team began conference play with a thud as they dropped a 59-51 MAC Commonwealth decision at Alvernia University on Wednesday night in Reading. The loss snaps the Spartans four-game winning streak.
The Golden Wolves outscored York 18-10 in the decisive fourth quarter as cold shooting and key turnovers prevented the Spartans from extending their win streak.
York falls to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the league while the Golden Wolves improve to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the league.

How It Happened
• York got off to a strong start as they raced out to a 9-3 lead less than two minutes into the game. The Golden Wolves answered with an 8-0 spurt that gave them an 11-9 lead. The Spartans were 0-for-4 from the floor including 0-for-3 from three with a pair of turnovers during the Alvernia run. The Spartans answered with a 7-2 spurt to close out the first quarter as the Green and White led 16-13 after ten minutes of play.

Georgia Panopoulos hit a lay-up to open the second quarter scoring as the York lead was five. The Golden Wolves tied the game at 18 with a five-point spurt but the story was York's inability to score as they were 0-for-3 from the floor with three turnovers. York had a good three minute stretch as they outscored Alvernia 8-2 to take a 26-20 lead with 1:01 left in the half. The Golden Wolves scored the final three points of the half to trim the York lead to three, 26-23, at the half.
• The Golden Wolves continued their run to start the second half with back-to-back lay-ups as they took a 27-26 lead. York scored seven of the next nine points to take a 33-29 lead at the 5:19 mark. Alvernia scored 12 of the final 20 points of the quarter as the game was tied at 41 after 30 minutes of play.
• The Spartans started the fourth quarter by scoring seven of the first 11 points of the stanza to take a 48-45 lead. From there, the Golden Wolves dominated York as they outscored the Spartans 14-3 over the final 4:56 of the game. York was 1-for-8 from the floor including 0-for-3 from three as they also had three costly turnovers during the fateful stretch to end the game.

The Spartans continue to lead the all-time series with the Golden Wolves 12-10 but Alvernia has won the last two games in the series … the Spartans 31.7% shooting from the floor is the fifth time this year they have shot 35% or worse from the floor … York has shot 31.8% (44-for-138) in their last two games … the Spartans' six free throws were the second lowest total of the year (5 attempts vs. Muhlenberg) and the third time they have attempted nine free throws or less in a game … York has now been out-rebounded nine times this year … the seven blocked shots tied a season high for the Spartans … defensively, the Spartans held Alvernia to 35.5% shooting and that's the seventh time they have held an opponent below 36% shooting in a game … grad forward
Morgan Adams led the way for York as she had 18 points, six assists, three blocks, three assists and a pair of steals in 30 minutes of action …
Breana Grim was the only other Spartan in double figures with 13 points while she set a new career standard with seven rebounds … Grim also had two assists, two blocked shots and one steal.
