#12 Gettysburg Uses Big First Half to Down York

The Bullets led by 19 at the half and that was too much for York to overcome

GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College women's basketball team dropped a 59-44 decision at #12 Gettysburg on Wednesday in Bream Gymnasium in Gettysburg.
The Bullets led by 10 after one quarter of play and by 19 at the half en route to the non-league win.
The Bullets improve to 7-0 with the victory while the Spartans fall to 3-4 overall.
 
How It Happened
• The scoring pace was slow over the first three minutes of the game as the squads were tied at four. The Bullets fashioned an 11-2 run to push out to a 15-6 lead with 3:41 left in the quarter. After a Mackenzie Brezovec bucket with 1:52 left, Gettysburg's AB Holsinger drilled a three with 26 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Bullets an 18-8 lead after ten minutes of play.
• Brezovec scored five of the first seven points of the quarter to cut the Spartan deficit to seven just 1:14 into the quarter. The Bullets answered with a 9-1 run to push the lead to 29-14 midway through the quarter. York scored six straight but Gettysburg ended the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 39-20 lead at the break.
• The Spartans struggled from the field in the first half as they were just 9-for-32 (28.1%) from the floor including 1-for-5 (20%) from three. Conversely, the Bullets torched the nets to the tune of 55.2% (16-for-29) from the field and 5-for-11 (45.5%) from three. Gettysburg also dominated York on the boards, 23-13.
• The Bullets got the first bucket of the half to push their lead to a game-high 21 but York went on a 7-2 run to cut the Gettysburg lead to 43-27 with 4:34 left in the quarter. The two teams were sluggish the remainder of the quarter as York scored five of the final nine points of the stanza. Both teams shot under 23% for the quarter while there were also a combined ten turnovers.
• York began the fourth quarter with a quick 8-3 spurt that sliced the Gettysburg lead to 10 at 50-40 but Gettysburg pushed the lead back to 18 with an 8-0 run over the next 3:55 of the game to put the contest on ice.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 30.2% (16-for-53) from the floor including 23.1% (3-for-13) from three … the Spartans went 9-for-12 (75%) from the line … Gettysburg shot 39.1% (25-for-64) from the floor and 6-for-22 (27.3%) from three … the Bullets were 3-for-4 from the line … Gettysburg out-rebounded York 44-31 including 13 offensive rebounds to seven for York … Gettysburg had a 10-6 edge in second chance points … York committed 18 turnovers which the Bullets turned into 15 points while Gettysburg's 17 turnovers cost them just seven points … York registered 14 steals in the game … the Bullets held a 34-18 advantage in paint points … Shinya Lee led the Bullets with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocked shots in just 28 minutes of work … AB Holsinger was the other Bullet in double figures with 11 points.

This was the first game between the two programs since the 2012 season when York recorded a 63-58 win at Bream Gymnasium as Brittany Hicks had 21 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double … the loss snaps the Spartans' two-game win streak against Gettysburg … the Bullets now lead the all-time series 10-6 … the Spartans struggled to shoot the ball as they converted under 31% for the third time this year … York held their fifth straight opponent to under 40% shooting for the game … York made a season low-tying three three-pointers while their 13 attempts were also a season-low … York was out-rebounded by a season-high 13 caroms as they have now lost the battle on the boards in five of their seven games … the Spartans tied a season-low with just eight assists … York's 14 steals were their second-highest total of the season … York has forced at least 15 opponent turnovers in all seven games … York had a season-high seven blocked shots against them in the game … the Spartans failed to have a player reach double figures in scoring for the game, a first this season … sophomore Mackenzie Brezovec led the way with a career-high nine points as she was 4-for-6 from the field including 1-for-2 from three … Brezovec also had a season-high six rebounds in addition to one assist in her 18 minutes of action … Breana Grim added eight points, four rebounds, one assist and five steals for the Spartans … Morgan Adams also had eight points in addition to a pair of rebounds, one assist and one steal.
