Total Team Effort Powers Spartans to 87-63 Road Win at Arcadia

Kai Cipalla led the way with 26 points in the victory

GLENSIDE, PA – The York College men's basketball jumped out to an early lead and cruised from there as they downed Arcadia University 87-63 in a MAC Crossover game on Wednesday night in Glenside, PA.
The Spartans ripped off an early 13-2 run to forge a ten-point lead eight minutes into the game. Their lead would not fall below eight the remainder of the game as they snapped their two-game losing skid.
York improves to 2-2 overall while the Knights falls to 1-4.
 
How It Happened
• The Knights jumped out to a 4-3 lead only to see the Spartans respond with the 13-2 run to take a 16-6 lead. Jackson Mascari powered the run with nine points as York was 6-for-6 from the floor including one three pointer. After a Knight lay-up, freshman Ben Troyer threw down a big dunk in traffic as he was fouled for a three-point play that started an 18-5 run that pushed the Spartan lead to 21 at 34-13. The Spartans had six different players score on the run as they were in control of the game.
• The Knights scored ten of the final 17 points of the half as they trailed 41-23 heading to the intermission. Jamison Lynam scored eight points during the late spurt for Arcadia. York shot 51.7% for the first half including five threes while they were 6-for-8 from the stripe.
• The teams came out of the half and went back and forth for the opening three minutes of the half as both teams tallied five points. Nick Schroeder drilled a three pointer to start a quick 10-3 Spartan spurt that built the lead to 25 at 56-31 with 13:31 left in the game. The Knights put together a 12-5 run covering 3:50 of play, trimming York's lead to 18 with 9:41 left in the game.
• The Knights kept clawing back as they cut the lead to 15 on an Amyr Walker lay-up with 4:29 left. The Spartans got a Kai Cipalla three-point play to start a 17-6 run that covering all but the final 30 seconds of the game as the Spartan lead grew to a game-high 26 before a Walker lay-up with 24 seconds left provided the final 24-point Spartan margin of victory.

The Spartans shot 57.7% (30-for-52) from the floor including 10-for-25 (40%) from three while they were 17-for-22 (77.3%) from the stripe … Arcadia shot 45.5% (25-for-55) from the field as they struggled from three going just 3-for-17 (17.6%) while they were 10-for-17 (58.8%) from the line … York held a 32-27 edge in rebounding while they also held a 14-11 advantage in second-chance points … the Spartans had 12 turnovers while the Knights had 13 … York converted the Arcadia miscues into 19 points … the Knights had a 42-36 margin in paint points … York had six blocked shots … York led for 97.1% (38:51) of the game … York had a 17-6 edge in assists … Jamison Lynam led the Knights with 23 points while Corey Attivo added 13 and Amyr Walker chipped in with 11 points.
 
Spartan Notes
York is now 5-0 all-time against Arcadia … the Spartans picked up their first road win of the year … the 87 points are a season-high by 22 points … the Spartans made a season-high 30 field goals … York made double figures in threes for the second straight game as the Spartans are 21-for-50 (42%) from distance in their last two games … York made a season-high 17 free throws on a season-high 22 attempts … York was whistled for a season-low 18 fouls… the Spartans had a season-high 17 assists on their 30 field goals … York had a combined 25 assists in their previous three games … York blocked six more shots as they now have 23 blocked shots in four games … senior Kai Cipalla notched the double-double in the win with 26 points and 10 rebounds in his 32 minutes of work …  Jayden Rowe added 16 points, five rebounds, five assists, one blocked shot and one steal in his 26 minutes of play … Rowe was an efficient 6-of-7 from the floor including 3-of-4 from three and 1-for-2 from the line … Jackson Mascari nearly had a double-double with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal …Mascari was 6-for-8 from the floor, 1-for-2 from three and 2-for-2 from the stripe … freshman Ben Troyer notched a career-high 11 points while he also had a rebound and an assist … Troyer was 4-for-6 from the floor, 2-for-3 from three and 1-for-1 from the line … freshman Anthony Sciote made his collegiate debut and had two points, two assists and one rebound in his nine minutes of play … the Spartans had nine different players score in the win.
 
Up Next
The Spartans are now off until December 4 when they head to Dickinson College to face the Red Devils in their annual non-conference duel. Tip time from the Kline Life Center is set for 8:00 pm.
