Fast Start Fuels Men's Basketball Win at Dickinson

The Spartans started the game with a 21-7 run to race past the Red Devils

CARLISLE, PA – The York College men's basketball squad earned their second straight road win with a 73-62 win over the Dickinson College Red Devils on Wednesday night in Carlisle, PA.
The Spartans got off a quick start as they led by 14 points just seven minutes into the game. The lead would not fall below six the rest of the game as York won their first game in 14 days after a lengthy Thanksgiving break.
The Spartans improve to 3-2 overall while Dickinson falls to 0-5 for the campaign.
 
How It Happened
• The Spartans showed no signs of rust after two weeks without a game as they jumped out to a 13-1 lead over the first four minutes of the game. Tate Landis started the game with a pair of three-pointers to give York the early 6-0 lead. The Spartans pushed the lead to 21-7 just over seven minutes into the game. The Spartans were 5-for-7 from three in the opening run while they were 8-for-11 overall from the field. Jackson Mascari led the way with eight points while Landis chipped in with six.
• The Red Devils controlled the next five minutes of play as they outscored York 10-5, cutting their deficit to 26-17 with 7:13 left in the first half. The Spartans responded with a 13-7 spurt, pushing the lead to 15 at 39-24. The Red Devils closed the half by scoring six of the final eight points of the half as the Spartan lead was 41-30 at the break.
• The Spartans were great from the field in the opening 20 minutes as they shot 55.2% from the floor including 50% (9-for-18) from distance.
• Dickinson's Isaiah Edmond opened the second half scoring with a lay-up but York responded with an 8-3 run fueled by six points from Kai Cipalla as the York lead was at 14. The Red Devils got back-to-back lay ups but the Spartans answered with threes from Ben Troyer and Nick Schroeder to go up 55-39 with 12:02 left in the game.
• The Spartans got loose with the ball over the next five minutes as they committed six turnovers, allowing the Red Devils to trim York's lead to just six at 55-49 courtesy of a 10-0 Red Devil run. York scored the next six points to take a 61-49 advantage with 5:26 left in the game.
• Dickinson scored 13 of the final 25 points of the game to cut their final deficit to 11 points.  
 
By the Numbers
The Spartans had their best shooting night of the year as they converted 56.3% (27-of-48) of their shots from the floor while they went 12-for-26 (46.2%) from three … the Spartans' weren't great from the line as they were 7-for-16 (43.8%) … Dickinson shot 43.6% (24-for-55) from the floor while they were 5-for-16 (31.3%) from three … the Red Devils were 9-for-13 (69.2%) from the free throw line … the Spartans won the battle on the glass, 29-26 … the Spartans led for all but 48 seconds of the game before York hit their first shot … The Spartans' largest lead was 16 at 73-57 … York had a 17-12 edge in assists … the Spartans committed 19 turnovers which Dickinson turned into 29 points while the Red Devils had 15 turnovers which resulted in 16 Spartan points … Isaiah Edmond and Cole Cosby ed the Red Devils with 15 points each while David Petrusev added 10 points.

The Spartans improve to 17-8 all-time against Dickinson as York has notched eight straight wins over the Red Devils … the Spartans have shot 57% (57-for-100) from the field in their last two games … York has shot at least 51.1% in all three of their wins … York converted a season-high 12 three pointers in the game … York has made 33 three-pointers in their last three games and are now shooting 35.4% from distance for the year … the Spartans tied a season-high with 17 assists … York is averaging 80 points per game in their last two wins … York won the battle of the backboards for the second straight game … York has held their last three opponents to a combined 9-for-48 (18.7%) from three … senior Kai Cipalla led four Spartans in double figures with 19 points as he was 8-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-7 from the line … Cipalla also had four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 32 minutes … Jackson Mascari added 13 points as he was 5-for-5 from the floor including 3-for-3 from three … Mascari also had five rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one blocked shot … junior Nick Schroeder was fantastic in his 21 minutes of work as he chipped in with a career-high 12 points … Schroeder was 4-for-4 from three during his time on the court … Tate Landis was the fourth Spartan in double figures with 11 points including a trio of three pointers … Jayden Rowe tied a career-high with eight assists while he also had six points, four rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot … freshman Ben Troyer came off the bench to toss in eight points on 3-for-3 shooting including 2-for-2 from three.

The Spartans close out their season-high five-game road trip on Saturday as they head to Doylestown, PA to face off against the Delaware Valley Aggies in a MAC Crossover contest. Tip time is set for 2:00 pm.
