Spartans Sweep Stevenson To Clinch Postseason Berth

YORK, Pa. - The Spartan women's volleyball team defeated Stevenson, 3-0, at home on Tuesday night to clinch a spot in the Commonwealth postseason tournament and will be the third seed.

Team Records
Stevenson 12-12 (3-3 MACC)
York 9-16 (4-2 MACC)

How It Happened
The Spartans fended off the Mustangs multiple times in the first set to claim a 25-22 victory. The two teams swapped leads four times, but York never trailed by more than one point at any time throughout the set. Liz Kerin tied the set, 20-20, with a kill and from there the Spartans took the lead for good as they went on to out-score the Mustangs, 5-2, down the stretch. Morgan Nolte notched a pair of kills on that clinching run and Kerin led all players with four in the frame.

Stevenson hit in the negatives in the second set and the Spartans took full advantage as they steamrolled their way to a 25-13 win. York went up 12-7 which forced a Mustang timeout and out of the break the Spartans went on to double-up Stevenson the rest of the way as they finished on a 13-6 run. Alyssa Mott dished out 10 assists in the set and Nolte led the way with four kills on just five total attempts.

The Spartans hit .321 in the third set and needed that offense to pull out a 25-21 win as they traded the lead five times before clinching the match. York fell behind by as much as seven points early on (9-2), but after a timeout, the Spartans went on a 12-2 run to take a three-point lead. The two teams traded blows until a string of three-straight Spartan kills by Jillian Kloc and Nolte put York up 22-19. Nolte and Jennifer Taylor combined for a key block to get the Spartans to 24 points and Georgianna Kahley notched the clinching kill to pull off the sweep.
