READING, PA – The York College men's soccer team got back to their winning ways with a 3-1 MAC Commonwealth at Albright College on Saturday afternoon in Reading, PA.
The Spartans netted three first half goals and cruised from there. The Lions spoiled the shutout late but York had plenty of cushion to earn the win.
York improves to 11-1-5 overall and 3-1-1 in the league. The Lions fall to 7-8-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference.
How It Happened
• The Spartans had control of the match early. That control resulted in a goal inside of the ten minute mark into the match.
Luke Nall sent a long forward pass to
Tyler Howlett. Howlett ran on to the ball and hit beautiful service across the face of the goal where
Noah Roche finished off the chance with a header inside the left post for the 1-0 lead.
• The Spartans continued to control the momentum of the match. Nall had a hand in York's second goal as he captured a loose ball at midfield and threaded a pass to
Owen Henderlite at the top of the box. Henderlite collected the ball at the right side of the 18 and fired a shot that snuck inside the left post for the Spartans' second goal of the game.
• York's third goal was all individual effort from
Brayden Safley. He took a pass around midfield, drove towards the top of the box as he beat four different Lion defenders. He unleashed a hard shot that beat Albright goalie Cooper Walters for the 3-0 Spartan lead. Safley's goal came with just over 13 minutes left in the first half.
• The Spartans had some second half opportunities but weren't able to tally a fourth goal in the game. The Lions spoiled the shutout in the 80
th minute as Daniel Lowman scored off a Christian Bowles assist.
• York finished the game with a 22-10 bulge in total shots including an 11-2 margin in shots on goal. The Spartans had a 5-3 advantage in corners kick.
