Spartans Wallop Widener With First Half Tallies

YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team erupted with three first half goals to put Widener away early in a 3-0 Commonwealth victory Tuesday night at Graham Field.

Team Records
Widener 6-8 (2-2 MACC)
York 9-3-4 (3-1 MACC)

How It Happened
Gabby Jennings put the first Spartan tally on the board in the 20th minute of play after finishing a feed from Julianna Schilling. Schilling received a throw in and drove towards the left corner where she served a beautiful centering pass into the middle of the box. Jennings received the pass around the eight-yard line, turned and fired a shot into the goal for her third tally of the season.

The Spartans fired off five more shots before Brooke Flugman extended the lead to 2-0 in the 28th minute. Flugman pressed up the field with Meg Kalthof who served a pass into the box where Flugman collected the ball off a bounce and sent it home over the outstretched hands of Widener keeper Nicole Rende.

With just over seven minutes left before halftime, York tacked on a third goal when Carissa Baugus booted it home from up the right wing for her second goal of the season. Raven Davies sent the ball in from the right sideline and the pass took one big bounce before it settled just enough for Baugus to send it sailing to the left corner of the net out of the reach of Rende.

York owned an 11-2 margin in shots throughout the first half and finished with a 16-9 advantage for the game. The Spartans also held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
