Women's Tennis Rolls Past Rutgers-Camden in Weber's Swan Song

The Spartans downed Rutgers-Camden 6-1 on Saturday in York

YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over Rutgers-Camden on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Myers Tennis Complex in York. The Spartans improve to 2-2 while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 4-3.

The match was the final in the lengthy career of Spartan head coach Ryan Weber who announced earlier this fall that he was leaving the program at the end of October. Weber has served as the women's coach since the 2008 season. He was an assistant for two years after his playing career as a Spartan was completed. He recorded 126 wins at the helm of the Spartan program. Weber led the Spartans to the 2021 MAC Commonwealth championship as the Green and White made the program's lone NCAA Tournament appearance. He was named the league Coach of the Year for his efforts.

In Saturday's match, the Spartans won two of the three doubles matches to earn the team point. Bri Serruto and Maddi Haggerty downed Jilliane Jaugan and Katie Moore 7-5 in the number one doubles match. Hannah Sult and Kennedy Conte posted a 6-2 second doubles win over Ashton Sirko and Bryn Kelleher to give York the doubles point.

Serruto and Sult had to work three sets to earn their singles win. Serruto outlasted Jaugan 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 as she improves to a team-leading 3-1 in singles play. Sult beat Katie Moore 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-7 to earn her first singles win of the year.

Haggerty put together an impressive 6-2, 6-1 third singles victory. The Scarlet Raptors got their lone point of the match in the fourth singles match-up as Kelleher posted the victory. Freshman Mia Leonhartt earned a 7-5, 6-0 fifth singles win over Emma D'Amico. Leonhartt improved to 2-1 for the campaign. Caraline Junkin closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 in the sixth singles match.

The Spartans are now off until the 2025 spring season. A full Spartan schedule will be released sometime later this fall semester.
