Women's Soccer Runs Win Streak to Three with 2-0 Win at Eastern

The Spartans scored a goal in each half to earn the Commonwealth win

ST. DAVID'S, PA – The York College women's soccer team won their third straight as they downed Eastern University 2-0 in a MAC Commonwealth contest in St. David's, PA on a sunny Friday afternoon.
The Spartans got a goal in each half to post their seventh shutout win.
The Spartans are now 8-2-3 overall and 2-0 in the MAC Commonwealth. Eastern is now 7-4-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.

How It Happened
• The Spartans had the best of the possession early but that did not result in any shots over the first ten minutes of play. York had a great chance in the 16th minute as Jaelynn Small drove the ball down the right sideline. She then ripped a great cross that just missed a pair of Spartans in the box as the ball trickled harmlessly out of play.
• The Spartans broke through in the 23rd minute as Abby Brown gave York a great individual effort. She drove the ball into the box from the right side and unleashed a shot that was saved. The rebound came right back to Brown's foot and she took advantage of the second shot as the blasted home the rebound under the crossbar for the 1-0 York lead.
• York had a few other chances in the first half but weren't able to extend their lead. York out shot the Eagles 8-2 including 5-1 in shots on goal. York held a 5-0 bulge in corner kicks in the match.
• Eastern carried the play the majority of the second half as they looked like a much different team out of the intermission. The Eagles had a great chance in the 57th minute as York was called for a foul just outside the box. Joss Metz made the stop of Olivia Nicholson who took the free kick for the Eagle. The Eagles had another great chance in the 65th minute as Ella Marrollo hit a header that was just high on a breakaway. The Eagles had a third high quality chance in the 85th minute as York committed a foul just outside the top of the box. Nicole Eveland's shot was saved by Metz as she maintained the clean sheet.
• Despite Eastern's strong play in the second half, York got a second goal on a counter in the 88th minute. Meg Bailey played a ball forward to an on-rushing Meg Kalthof who carried the ball into the box. She unleashed a shot that was saved but Alyssa Russell was there to clean up the rebound for the 2-0 lead. York closed out the game to earn the two-goal victory.
• Eastern out shot the Spartans 7-5 in the second half while both teams had four shots on goal and both teams had three corners.
