YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball squad got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 74-52 MAC Commonwealth win over Eastern University on Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans used big first and fourth quarters to pull away for the league win.
York improves to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in the MAC Commonwealth while the Eagles fall to 7-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a good start as they raced out to a 9-3 lead over the first 3:50 of the game. The Eagles cut the lead to five at 18-13 but the Spartans finished the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 25-15 lead at the end of one quarter of play.
• The second quarter was back and forth as neither team could put a significant dent in the score. The Spartans scored first in the quarter to push the lead to 12. The Spartans scored five points in the middle of a low scoring period to take a 32-18 lead with 3:58 left in the half. The Eagles went on a 9-4 run to end the quarter as they sliced the Spartan lead to nine (36-27) at the break.
• York took control to start the third as the Spartans began the quarter on an 8-1 run to push the lead to 16 (44-28) with 6:05 left in the third. Eastern outscored York 11-8 the rest of the quarter as the Spartan lead was 14 after the first 30 minutes of play.
• The Spartans began the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to push the lead to 21 just 1:08 into the period. Eastern answered with five straight points but the Spartans went on a 13-5 run to push the lead to 24 with 2:16 left. York eventually settled for the 22-point win.

The Spartans shot 48.1% from the field and 53.8% (7-for-13) from three … the Spartans converted 17-of-25 (68%) from the free throw line … the Eagles shot 31.4% from the floor and 28.6% (6-for-21) from three and 53.8% (14-for-26) from the free throw line … York finished with a 39-34 edge on the glass while the Spartans also had a 16-12 edge in second chance points … both teams had 16 turnovers as York had a 20-12 margin in second chance points … York had 15 assists on their 25 field goals … York never trailed in the game as they led for 39 of the 40 minutes of play … York's largest lead was 24 in the game … York had a 30-12 bulge in paint points.

The Spartans swept the season series from the Eagles as York is now 8-1 all-time against Eastern including 6-0 as MAC Commonwealth foes … York has won four of their last five as they are now 5-2 at Wolf Gymnasium … the 22 point win is York's second biggest league victory of the year, only bested by their 23-point win at Eastern on January 6 … the Spartans shot a season-high 53.8% from three as they made 7-of-13 … the 13 attempts tied a season low (also at Messiah) … the 17 made free throws were a season high for the Spartans … York won the battle on the glass for the ninth time this year and they are 9-0 in those games …
Alyssa Hocker led the way for York as she notched her eighth double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds … Hocker also had three assists and two steals in her 31 minutes of action …
Breana Grim added 14 points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals for York …
Taylor Burda added 12 points and two rebounds for the Spartans while
Makenna Zimmerman was the fourth Spartan in double figures with 10 points while she also had four rebounds …
Taylor Brenneman came off the bench to score eight points.
