Joyce's Late Goal Lifts York to Fourth Straight Win

The Spartans improve to 5-1 on the road

CHESTER, PA – The York College women's soccer squad broke a scoreless tie with 58 seconds left in the game to earn a huge 1-0 MAC Commonwealth road win at Widener on Saturday in Chester, PA.
The Spartans have four straight with the last three coming via a shutout.
York improves to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the league. The Pride falls to 2-4-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

How It Happened
• The Spartans had the better of the play early in the game as they recorded four shots and a corner kick in the first ten minutes of the game. The Pride responded with a pair of shots that Madison O'Brien saved to keep the game scoreless. The remainder of the half was back and forth as the teams went to the half locked in a scoreless tie. York out-shot the Pride 8-5 in the first half including 4-4 in shots on goal. York had a slight 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
• The Spartans had the better of the play to start the second half as they again pressured Widener early and often in the stanza. York forced Widener goalie Samantha Coon to make two saves in the opening four minutes of the half. The game continued to be back and forth playing between the boxes until the 85th minute when York was called for a foul in the box. Widener's Madison Forte hit the penalty kick wide and the Spartans survived the scare.
• York broke the tie in the final minute of play as York earned a corner kick in the 89-minute mark as senior Ashlynn Weger drove to the end line and forced the defense to boot the ball out. Freshman Kaitlyn Young served a beautiful ball into the box where junior Morgan Joyce headed the ball home for the game-winner. The goal was Joyce's fourth of the year and her second game-winner for the Green and White.
• The Spartans killed off the final 58 seconds to earn their fifth road win of the year.
