Women's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Five

Joyce, Weger and Schilling score in the Spartan win

ANNVILLE, PA – The York College women's soccer posted their fifth straight win as they blanked Lebanon Valley 3-0 in Annville, PA on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 6-1 on the road as they are now 7-4 overall. Lebanon Valley falls to 2-4-2 overall.

How It Happened
• The Spartans had the better of the play for most of the first half of play. The Green and White drew back to back corner kicks late in the opening half. The second kick came in from the right of the goal. The Brooke Flugman kick hugged the ground and somehow navigated its way to the back post where a Dutchmen defender attempted to clear the kick. Fortunately for York, the ball ended up on the foot of Morgan Joyce who put the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 Spartan lead. The goal came with 8:47 left in the first half.
• The Spartans continued their strong play in the second half. York's second goal was a great combination by Kaitlynn Young to Ashlynn Weger. Young won the ball just inside midfield and slipped a pass to Weger. Weger took the ball at the top of the box, side-stepped a defender and slotted a great shot into the right side of the goal for the 2-0 lead with just over 25 minutes left in the game.
• The Spartans put the game away with just over 17 minutes left in regulation. Olivia Dingman forced an LVC turnover just beyond the top of the Spartan offensive box. She hit a pass to the right where Julianna Schilling hit an absolute top shelf rocket for the 3-0 advantage.
• The Spartans finished the game with a 19-9 advantage in total shots and a 10-2 margin in shots on goal. York also had an 8-1 bulge in corner kicks.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans have won four straight over LVC as they are now 7-4 all-time against the Dutchmen … the teams played the last two years as conference opponents but the Dutchmen made the move to the MAC Freedom side of the league starting this fall … York has posted four straight shutouts as they have allowed just one goal during their five game win streak and that goal came on a penalty kick early in the match against DeSales on September 20 … York is riding a defensive scoreless streak of 430:02 dating back to the DeSales match … sophomore Madison O'Brien played the first 82:44 in goal before freshman Sophia Albino made her collegiate debut in the 83rd minute ... Albino played the final 7:16 of the game and she recorded a save … the three goals tied a season high (3 vs. DeSales) … the two assists also tie a season high (vs. Franklin & Marshall and DeSales) … York has fired off 19 total shots with ten shots coming on goal in each of their last two games for a season high … junior Morgan Joyce became the first Spartan to reach double figures in scoring this year with her fifth goal for her tenth point … Joyce has a team-high three game-winning goals … Ashlynn Weger tallied her third goal of the year … sophomore Julianna Schilling's goal made her the ninth Spartan to find the back net this year.
