York notches third shutout of the season

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - A pair of rookies netted their first-career goals as the York women's soccer squad notched their third-straight win with a 2-0 victory at Susquehanna on Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
  • York came knocking on the door early. Ashlynn Weger, Alyssa Russell and Meg Kalthof racked up a 3-0 shot advantage for the Spartans through the first 22 minutes of play with one shot on goal
  • The Spartans' persistence paid in the 26th minute when Weger set up Carissa Baugus for the game's first tally.
  • The Green and White went on to out-shoot the River Hawks 5-0 through the final 19 minutes of the first half with Julianna Schilling leading the way with two of those five shots. The Spartans ended the first half with a 10-0 shot advantage and a 1-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • York peppered Susquehanna in the first 11 minutes of the second half, but River Hawk keeper Kayleigh Saboja denied the Spartans on three separate occasions during that span.
  • The Spartan defense surrendered their first shot of the game in the 51st minute following a corner set piece and went on to allow just three more shots the rest of the way.
  • The Spartan offense rewarded the defensive unit for their efforts with another goal in the 71st minute when Kalthoff assisted Olivia Dingman for the final goal of the contest.
