Women's Soccer Scores Season-High Three Goals to Down DeSales

Russell, Joyce and Brown each tally a goal in the Spartan win

YORK, PA- The York College Spartans women's soccer squad earned their first home win of the season, handing the DeSales Bulldogs a 3-1 loss in one of York's more impressive showings thus far in 2023.
After conceding the first goal of the game on a DeSales penalty kick, York tallied three consecutive goals, achieving their season high in goals.
The Spartans improve to 3-4 overall while the Bulldogs fall to 0-6-1.

How it Happened
• York had a couple legitimate chances at goal in the early going, but the back line for the Bulldogs held strong and kept the game scoreless. DeSales goalie Jozlyn Minnema made a couple nice plays out of net and helped limit York to only three first half shots.
• A swift counter attack by the Bulldogs in the 19th minute led to a penalty kick after Tori Harnett got behind the Spartan defense and was tripped in the box. Harnett easily netted her second goal of the season on the PK.
• The Spartans finally leveled things in the 41st minute when an unforced DeSales turnover led to a Jena Witters shot off the post which was immediately cleaned up by Alyssa Russell, who's second goal of the season once again evened the contest. Witters earned the assist on the goal.
• Junior Morgan Joyce scored her third goal in her last four games with a long distance shot that found just enough space over the leaping Minnema in the 50th minute, putting the Green and White ahead for good. It was her first game-winning goal of the year.
Abby Brown clinched the win with a remarkable individual effort in the 63rd minute, finding the bottom left corner of the net while dribbling left past the swarming Bulldog defense. It was her first goal of the season.
• York held a 17-11 margin in shots while the Bulldogs managed an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Spartans earned an 8-0 bulge in corner kicks in the win.
