Men's Soccer Falls to Cabrini on Late Cavalier Goal

The Spartans dropped their first opener in five years

RANDOR, PA – The York College men's soccer team surrendered a goal in the final 12 minutes of regulation as Cabrini University upset the Spartans 1-0 on Friday night in the 2023 season opener. The loss snaps the Spartan four match unbeaten streak in season openers.
The Cavaliers improve to 1-0 while the Green and White falls to 0-1.

How It Happened
• The Spartans had a pair of chances early as senior Tyler Howlett struck a pair of shots wide in the 15th and 19th minutes of the match. Matt Martin recorded the game's first shot on goal in the 33rd minute but Cavalier goalie MJ Graham made the stop, keeping the game scoreless.
• Cabrini had a three shot flurry in the final nine minutes of the first half with a shot on goal, a blocked shot and a wide shot but none of the attempts found the back of the cage. Cabrini outshot York 5-4 in the first half as both teams put one shot on cage. The Cavs held a slim 2-1 margin in corner kicks.
• The Spartans applied pressure early in the second half as York had four straight corner kicks over a 43 second span seven minutes into the stanza. Unfortunately, the corner kicks would not result in any shots for York. The Spartans had another two corner kicks in the next four minutes but, again, York wasn't able to create any scoring chances.
• The teams traded shots on goal in the 76th minute as Cabrini Hunter Rolles forced Mason Boyd to make a stop while Cole Kendra created an opportunity with 13:08 left in the game.
• Cabrini got the game winner as Nolan Holloway found Matt Duddy for the goal with 11:59 remaining in the game, setting off a raucous celebration along the Cabrini sideline.
• York pressured the Cavs over the final ten minutes of the game as they forced Graham to make saves on consecutive possessions. The Spartans had three shots over the final nine minutes but wouldn't be able to break through as they suffered the road loss.
