Wild's Two Goals Powers #9 Spartans to Victory

Spartan defender Libby Wild scored a pair of goals in York's 2-1 win over Ithaca

YORK, PA – The York College field hockey team remained unbeaten as they got a pair of Libby Wild goals to down Ithaca College 2-1 in non-conference play on Saturday in York.
The ninth ranked Spartans improved to 5-0 while the Bombers fall to 3-3.

How It Happened
• The Bombers had the first two chances of the game as Juliana Valli fired off a shot from close range that was saved by Spartan goalie Belle Fields. The rebound went to the stick of Catherine Papa who squeezed off a second shot that Fields saved. The Spartans got their first chance of the game 10 minutes into the game as they drew a corner. Maycee Collison inserted the ball to Libby Wild who fired off a one-timer inside the left post for the 1-0 lead.
• The Spartans had three shots and two corners in the opening eight minutes of the second quarter but Ithaca goalie Alex Clough made two saves to keep the Bomber deficit at one. The Bombers broke through with 4:51 left in the half as Papa carried the ball along the perimeter of the circle. She unleashed a pass from the left wing that Juliana Valli batted into the goal for her fourth goal of the season, tying the game at one. York had a pair of corners and a shot in the final four minutes of the stanza but the game would head to the half tied at one.
• The third quarter was played in the middle of the field as there were few offensive chances for either team. Both teams had two shots and one corner in the scoreless frame.
• The fourth quarter saw the Spartans dial up their game as they dominated possession. They finally broke through on their ninth and final corner of the day with 4:14 left in the game. Brooke Cordisco inserted the corner to Wild who drove home a shot inside the right post to give York the 2-1 lead. York killed off the remaining four minutes of the game to earn their third home win of the year.
