Spartans Knock Off Previously Unbeaten Dickinson

Kalthof, Joyce tally twice in first half to pick up 2-0 road win

CARLISLE, Pa. - A pair of first-half tallies lifted the York women's team to 2-0 victory at previously unbeaten Dickinson on Wednesday night.

The Spartans made the most of their opportunities, scoring twice in the first half on just two shots as Sara Frensley netted the first (33') and Morgan Joyce scored the second on a 45th-minute penalty kick.

Team Records
York 2-3-0
(RV) Dickinson 4-1-0

How It Happened
  • The Red Devils put the Spartans on their heels early as Dickinson racked up a 5-0 shot advantage in the first 17 minutes of play. York weathered the storm courtesy of a pair of saves by Teresa Gonzalez during that early barrage and finished the first half with three total stops to keep Dickinson off the board.
  • The Spartans turned their defense into offense and generated chances as the first half unfolded. A corner kick opportunity in the 33rd minute resulted in the game's first tally as Sara Frensley sent her shot home with an assist by Meg Kalthof.
  • York tacked on another in the final minute of the first half when Morgan Joyce converted a penalty kick to give her squad a 2-0 lead heading into the break. Dickinson's Ava Cefaloni was charged with a foul in the closing seconds of the first half which led to the penalty opportunity for the Spartans.
  • The Red Devils came out of the halftime break and ripped off three shots in the first six minutes of play, but did not put any on target. Dickinson went on to out-shoot the Spartans 5-1 in the second half with Gonzalez making a crucial save in the 81st minute to preserve the shutout and dampening any late chances at a Dickinson comeback.
