ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The York College Spartans had a pair of student-athletes compete during the opening day of the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championships in Rochester, N.Y. on Thursday.

Julia Pena competed in the long jump and junior
Andrew Mott competed in the discus on Thursday.
Mott entered the championships on a hot streak as he had broken the school record in the discus in each of his last two weeks including breaking a 69-year old record in the MAC Commonwealth championships in York.
Mott won the discus at the MAC Championship with a best throw of 53.41 and then broke the record again at the AARTFC Championships at Susquehanna.
On Thursday, Mott first throw was 34.03 meters. He fouled on his second attempt and concluded the day with a toss of 46.07 meters to finish 17
th in the 21-thrower field.
Pena began her championship with the first of the three events she is competing in during the course of the meet. Pena's first jump was 3.99 meters. She upped that to 5.41 meters in her second attempt. Her third and final attempt was 5.57 meters as she placed 15
th overall.
Pena returns to the track on Friday starting at 5:15 with the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles. She will then hustle over to the pole vault and begin that competition at 6:00 pm.
