How It Happened
York got to work in the first inning and took a 1-0 lead. Daphney Adams gave York the early lead with an RBI double following a pair of walks by Emma Keller and Alyssa Harhigh. The double by Adams forced the Lions into an early pitching change as Jadelyn Van Winkle replaced Kathryn Baptiste in the circle after just four batters. Van Winkle went on to retire the next two batters in order and worked out of the inning to leave Harhigh and Adams stranded.

The Spartans erupted for six runs on just four hits in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Kaela Fritz started the rally with a two-run single to center field to score Morgan Sauers and Harhigh. A costly Albright error extended the inning and the Spartans made Lions pay as they poured on three more runs before the inning's end.

Fritz came through once again in the fourth with the game-clinching two-run single to left to put the Spartans ahead 9-0 to meet the run rule requirements. Taylor Coon added insurance with a two-run double down the left field line as the Spartan lead swelled to 12-0.

Amanda Criss forced the Lions into three-straight ground ball outs in the top of the fifth as the Spartans claimed the victory in an hour and 13 minutes. Criss surrendered just one hit with four strikeouts, seven fly outs and four ground outs in her 5.0 innings of work.

How It Happened
The Spartans battled back from an early one-run deficit to score five runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to end the game in five frames.

The Lions put two runners in scoring position in the first inning without a hit. Kathryn Baptiste helped her own cause by driving in the game's first run with an infield single to the pitcher.

After an uneventful second inning for both offenses, the Spartans exploded for five runs on six hits in the third as they batted around with the first seven batters reaching base. Emma Keller kick-started the rally with an RBI-triple, followed later by an RBI-single by Daphney Adams. Bri McKeown kept things going with an RBI-single to shortstop, and Adams also came in to score on a throwing error by the shortstop. Taylor Walls capped the rally with a sacrifice pop up to shortstop.

York hung another five runs on another six runs in the fourth inning as all 10 Spartan batters reached base in the frame. York started with three-straight extra-base hits with a pair of doubles by Keller and Morgan Sauers, followed by a deep blast to left field by Alyssa Harhigh as York went up, 8-1. Later, Reagan Wolford put York ahead by eight runs with a single to left and Taylor Coon followed with another RBI-single to give the Spartans double-digit runs for the second time on the day.

After the first inning, Natalie Rietema and the Spartan defense went on to retire 12 of the final 16 batters with four strikeouts, four strikeouts and six fly outs.
