Ithaca Sweeps Softball on Chilly Saturday

The Spartans are still in search of home win number one

York Pa, – The Spartans took on Ithaca College in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Spartan Stadium. The Bombers won the series in a dominating showing in game one, 10-2, and pulling out a close one, 2-1, in game two. How It Happened:
• The Bombers got off to a hot start with back to back singles from Sela Scheinman and Hudson Hassler. Allison Dell' Orto would score them both on a double to left. Followed by a Tava Kasper home run completing the four run first inning. The Spartans managed to get two runners in scoring position with Taylor Coon walking and Alyssa Harhigh reaching on an error but the Spartans could not capitalize.
• The Bombers added another run in the second with two quick hits as Scheinman doubled to left and Hassler lined a single to score another making this a quick 5-0 game. • • The barrage continued in the top of the third as Ithaca was not done. Madison Casale singled and Haley Petrucci followed it with a two-run homer to left extending the Bomber lead to 7-0.
• Gretchen Barstard got things going for the Spartans in the box as she lined a single to left. Morgan Sauers singled to left, moving Barstad to third, the second time the Spartans would have runners in scoring position.  Harhigh doubled to right, scoring the first run of the game for the Spartans. With two on base in Sauers and Harhigh for York, the Spartans had an opportunity to make it a big inning but could not get another run through.
• That would be the last threat the Spartans offered as a strong outing from Bombers starting pitcher Riley Piromali completed the full game only allowing a single run. Ithaca would score three more times with a final scoring being 10-1 and the game ending in the sixth inning.
