How It Happened
• The game was scoreless in the opening three innings of the game as neither offense could get it's footing. That changed in the fourth as the Knights exploded for three runs in the frame. The uprising was aided by a pair of Spartan errors in the inning. The scoring started with an RBI double from Summer Centeno after a Madi Costigan lead-off triple. Centeno scored on a Molly Delio RBI single. The Knights got an unearned run on a fielder's choice for their third run. Spartan starter
Natalie Rietema got out of the jam as the Knights left the bases loaded.
• York broke up the shutout in the sixth.
Alyssa Harhigh singled through the left side to lead off the inning. After a fly out,
Daphney Adams laid down a beautiful bunt single. The Knight defense allowed Harhigh to race all the way to third on the bunt coverage.
Kaela Fritz grounded out to the pitcher but Harhigh alertly raced home, beating the throw from the first baseman for York's first run.
Taylor Walls then scored Adams with a booming double off the left field wall as the Spartan deficit was a run.
• After Rietema retired the Knights in the top of the seventh, the Spartans went quietly in the bottom of the inning as Paige Nolan finished off the complete game win with a 1-2-3 inning.
